Private Douglas Plain (Service No:VX73648) enlisted in the AIF on 27 January 1942, and was attached to 10 and 34 Infantry Training Battalions and 5 Pioneer Coy. Private Plain was attached to 2/2 Pioneer Battalion at Discharge on 23 October 1944.

Doug (Douglas Wallace Plain) was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1918, fourth of eight children of William John Plain (b1890 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Elsie Phelan (b1892 in Melbourne, Victoria). William (a Grocer) and Elsie married in 1912 in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family and William was a Grocer and - from the early 1920s - a Tram Conductor.

Doug worked as a Labourer and Case Maker before enlisting in the Army, and in 1942 in Melbourne married Sylvia Maude Watson (b1920 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Sylvia was a Boot Machinist in Melbourne. Doug and Sylvia settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Doug worked as a Tramways Employee and - from the 1950s until Retirement - as a Case Maker. Doug died in 2002 and Sylvia in 2009.
