Son of John GeorgeO'Donnell and Elizabeth Amelia O'Donnell, of 'Rosemount', Wallace Street, Kogarah, NSW.
Brother of Harold Gordon O'Donnell who died on 21 June 1917 from wounds received while serving with the 5th Machine Gun Company and is buried in the Brookwood Military Cemetery, Plot X1, Row C, Grave 12 and Alexander Thomas O'Donnell who was killed in action on 20 July 1916 while serving with the 54th Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on the VC Corner Cemetery and Memorial, Panel 11.
Commenced return to Australia on 13 March 1918 aboard HT Tofua disembarking on June 1918 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
