JOSEPH LANCELOT BERNARD CAREY

JOSEPH LANCELOT BERNARD Joe CAREY (1886-1974) born at Wee Jasper, son of Henry and Jane Carey nee Garner. Private 2353, 20th Battalion - 5th Reinforcements. Joe, a shearer, served from June 26th, 1915 until April 8th, 1919 after enlisting at Liverpool. He embarked for overseas service on September 30th, 1915 and taken on strength as Tel.el.Kebir on January 19th, 1916. He then boarded the HMT Infoma at Alexandra on March 18th, 1916 and disembarked at Marseilles 7 days later. He was still in France in 1917 where he contracted Trench Fever and was evacuated to England for treatment. He was back in France some weeks later and returned to Australia per Frasosmontes on April 7th, 1919. He received his discharge on July 18th.
