Leslie was the son of Friedrich and Anna Renner [nee Keller]. Leslie left
Melbourne on HMAT A11 Ascanius on 11 May 1917 and was sent to France
with his unit on 8 December. Leslie sustained shrapnel wounds to his thigh
and legs during action on 3 June 1918. He was wounded on a second occasion
in the chest on 27 August and was hospitalised at Rouen prior to being
invalided to England for treatment at Birmingham on 3 September. Leslie
returned to Australia on the Orsova on 8 January 1919, reaching Adelaide on
18 February. He was discharged on 20 March.
Leslie John Renner died on 14 November 1963, aged 67.
