In memory of Private Charles Henry Brear, 7th Battalion, from South Yarra, Victoria.
He is photographed on the 24th of August 1915 with an unidentified woman.
A groom (groom(s) usually clean stables, feed, exercise and groom horses) prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 14th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Themistocles.
He was killed in action at the Battle Of Fromelles on the 19th of July 1916, aged 21, and is commemorated on the VC Corner Australian Memorial, Fromelles. Like many other soldiers he has no known grave.
2,000 other Australians died with him in that battle. The worst day in Australia’s history.
