Son of Thomas Vaughan and Elizabeth Ann Vaughan of 'Copmanhurst', Clarence River, NSW.
Brother of Leslie Vaughan who returned to Australia on 19 February 1919 having served with the 26th Battalion and Arthur Greaves Vaughan who was killed in action on 16 July 1916 while serving with the 3rd Machine Gun Company and has no known grave. His name appears on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
Commenced return to Australia on 11 December 1918 aboard HT Saxon disembarking on 30 January 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
