KILLED WHEN STRUCK
BY CAR. .
BENDIGO Sunday.-Struck by a car on tho Calder Highway, near
Maiden Gully Post Office, about 2.43 a.m. yesterday, William Slattery, 50, of Leichhardt, was fatally injured. He died soon after admission to the Bendigo Base Hospital. The car, which was occupied by Robert Ahearn, of Inglewood, his mother, Mrs. Amy Ahearn, and John H. Barber, of Kurting, was travelling from Melbourne to their homes.
First-Constable Thornton, of Long Gully, said the party, first saw the  man as the car rounded a bend. He seem ed to be standing on the road, with his back to the approaching car. He turned and waved his hands.  As the car drew closer, Constable Thornton added, the man made several steps into the road. The car struck him, and threw him on to the bonnet. His head hit the windscreen, and he fell to the roadway.
