Son of Daniel Quinlivan and Elizabeth Quinlivan of 'Wandella', Cobargo, NSW. Brother of John Patrick Quinlivan who was killed in action on 26 September 1917 while serving with the 55th BAttalion and has no known grave. His name appears on Panel 29 of the Menin Gate Memorial Ypres.

Commenced return to Australia on 12 May 1918 aboard HT Ruahine disembarking on 5 July 1918
