Family History
Edwin Pywell born 25 Dec 1891 in West Leeds, the son of John Pywell and Anne Ward Berridge. (Source: Birth Certificate).
On 17 May 1913 Edwin arrived in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on the ship Irishman, he was 21 years old and travelled alone.
After the war, Edwin's address was care of Mrs. Harrison at 12 Wise Street, Rozelle, New South Wales, Australia - his address for receipt of his pension.
According to a letter, attached to his military record written by Edwin dated 24 June 1967, he had changed his surname to Tyrrell. Quote 'In 1920 I changed my name to E. Tyrrell and got married and my wife and family knows me only by that name' unquote.
Edwin married Mary Dunn on 28 July 1926 in the Catholic Cathedral in Perth, Western Australia.
In 1927 his sister Mrs. Clara Alice Carr from Leeds, Yorkshire, England was searching for him - source: National Archives of Australia.
Edwin worked as a gardener and labourer in various towns around the south west of Western Australia, including Warrona, Waggrakine and Esperance.
He died in 1968 in Hollywood, Perth, Western Australia, and is buried in the Anglican Section of the Esperance Cemetery.
