Leslie was the third child of Stephen Sawle Bickford (b1855 in Adelaide, South Australia) and Caroline Dimond (b1859 in Portland, Victoria). Stephen - a Manager - and Caroline married in 1881 in Melbourne, Victoria and by 1899 Stephen was an Engine Driver. The family relocated to Perth WA in 1902, where Stephen worked as an Engine Driver.
Leslie was a Commercial Traveller in Perth, WA when he enlisted in the AIF in 1915, initially serving as a Private with No 16 Depot before re-enlisting and serving as a Lieutenant with 11th Infantry Battalion. Leslie was WiA in France in July 1916 (GSW right foot) and was Discharged in July 1918.
Back in Perth WA, Leslie was working as a Commercial Traveller when he married Ruby Vicky Jones (b1890 in Yatala, South Australia) in 1918. Leslie and Ruby settled in Perth WA where Leslie worked as a Commercial Traveller and Departmental Manager. In WWII he served (Lieutenant; Service No:W83132) with 1 (WA) Battalion VDC. Both sons - Lindsay Stuart (Service No:17898) and Colin James (Service No:415607) served with the RAAF in WWII.
Leslie died in 1962 and Ruby in 1986.
