Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Brothers, Alfred and Alexander Nelson enlisted together and were sent overseas with the 8th Battalion during late 1915.

They went separate ways and Alexander, the youngest, ended up joining the 6th Light Trench Mortar Battery, a unit in which another brother George served.

His brother 3553 Pte. Alfred Nelson 59th Battalion was killed in action very late in the war, 29 September 1918. His third brother, 1981 Private George Nelson was also serving in the 6th Light Trench Mortar Battery and was awarded a Military Medal for bravery at Bullecourt. George returned to Australia in 1919.
