21 Sep 1916: Honoured Military Medal, Battle for Pozières , At Pozieres, acting as stretcher bearer between the nights 4-6 August 1916, although buried by shells on three different occasions he bandaged up and carried out wounded men under very trying conditions and under very heavy shell fire. He was one of the last bearers to leave the front line when the Battalion was returned.
