ERIC ROBERT LANGE

Eric Robert Lange Reg. No. 1418 was born in 1894 at Whitwarta, South Australia and attended Whitwarta Public School. He was the son of Christina and W. Lange of Magill. On July 6th 1915 he joined the 9th Light Horse Battalion, and embarked from Melbourne, via HMAT Ulysses in October of that year, bound for Egypt. After 7months he transferred to the Field Artillery as a gunner. In June 1916 he arrived in France. He was Hospitalised for six weeks due to illness and then returned to the front as a driver. He sustained serious gunshot wounds to the arm, hand and back. On the 13th of June 1917 his arm had to be amputated, and he died later that day. He was buried at the Estaires Communal Cemetery Extension, in Belgium.
