Elder of the two brothers (Charles and Alexander) who served in WWII, Corporal Charles William Robert Prosser (Service No:19273) served two years with Senior Cadets at Coburg and four years in the Militia (Private; Artillery) before enlisting in the RAAF on 21 October 1940 at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Fitter. Promoted to Leading Aircraftman (1942) and Corporal (1944), he was attached to 6 Aircraft Depot at Discharge on 20 March 1945.
Charles was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1905, second of six children on Charles Robert Prosser Snr (b1871 in Kilmore, Victoria) and Selina Cordelia Dennis (b1877 in Eaglehawk, Bendigo, Victoria). Charles Snr served in the Boer War (Farrier Sergeant; Service No:761), and was a Blacksmith in 1903 when he and Selina married in Eaglehawk. Charles Snr and Selina settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Charles Snr worked as a Blacksmith and Foreman with the Municipal Council.
Charles started work as a Motor Driver and Mechanic with David Symes & Co (The Age, Melbourne) in the early 1920s, and in 1938 in Melbourne married Marion Janet Brown (b1911 in Mooroopna, Victoria) - Marion was working as a Law Clerk in Melbourne. Charles and Marion settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Charles worked as a Motor Mechanic and Fitter. Following retirement in the mid 1970s, the couple moved to Surfers Paradise in QLD and then to Tweeh Heads in New South Wales. Charles died in 1985, and Janet then returned to Melbourne, where she died in 2010.
