Aircraftman I Henry Daniel Maher (Service No:22470) enlisted in the RAAF on 20 May 1940 and mustered as a Turner. he was promoted to Flight Mechanic on 22 September 1940 and Leading Aircraftman on 7 May 1941. He was a Corporal atatched to 1 Aircraft Depot when he was Discharged on 1 November 1945.
Born in 1912 in Rockhampton QLD, Henry was the second of five children of Daniel Maher (b1873 in Rockhampton, QLD) and Ann (Annie) Adams (b1879 in Rockhampton, QLD). Daniel was working as a Stockman at Hillview Farm in Duaringa nr Rockhampton, QLD when he and Annie married in 1909. They lived in Duaringa, Mt Larcombe and Rockhampton where Daniel was a Grazier and Labourer.
Henry worked as a Baker at Mt Larcombe via Gladstone, QLD and in his application for enlistment stated he had been a Mill Worker (Fitter's Assistant) in North QLD and had previous experience with heavy duty motor lorries. In 1941 in Glenside, South Australia he married Dorothy Jean and by 1958 the couple had settled at Cooee Bay in Yeppoon, QLD where Henry was a Newsagent.
