Leading Aircraftman Albert William Leonard McDowall (Service No:46989) enlisted in the RAAF on 31 March 1942 as as Aircraftman I, and mustered as a Flight Rigger. He had served in 1928/1929 as a Private with the Citizens Forces, and with the Naval Reserve as a Signalman from 1930 to 1933. LAC McDowall was attached to 13 Aircraft Depot when he was Discharged on 28 May 1947.

Born in 1911 in Hampshire in England, Albert was the eldest of two children of Henry John McDowall (b1883 in Essex, England) and Grace Richards (b1883 in Hampshire, England). Henry (a Carpenter and Joiner) and Grace (a General Domestic Servant) married in 1910 in Hampshire and immigrated in 1912, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Orsova. The family settled in Subiaco where Henry worked as a Carpenter.

Albert worked in Perth as a Plasterer and Builder, and played the clarinet. In 1938 in Perth he married Jean Parncutt (b1916 in Perth, WA) and following their Divorce, Albert remarried in 1947 to Sylvia May Davis (b1920 in Perth, WA) - Sylvia had served with the AWAS in WWII (Service No:WF90479). Albert and Sylvia settled in Perth where Albert woorked as a Plasterer. Albert died in 1968 and Sylvia in 2003.
