THE LATE PRIVATE H. T. HAINES

Official information has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Haines, of North Quorn, that their son. Private Hurtle Thomas Haines, was killed in action in France on March 2. He enlisted on May 15, 1916, and sailed on August 28, 1916. He had been in the firing line since December last. Private Haines, who was born at Glenelg, but had lived at Quorn for many years, was nearly 25 years of age. Prior to enlisting he was employed by the Railways Department as fireman. He was well spoken of by all who knew him.

BROTHERS KILLED.

QUORN, April 20.— About the middle of March Mr. and Mrs. Charles Haines of North Quorn, received news that their son, Hurtle Thomas Haines, had been killed in action in France, and that a younger son, Lce.-Cpl Charles E. Haines, had been wounded. On April 17 the parents received news that Lce.-Cpl. Ernest Haines had been killed in action on April 4. The deceased was about 21 years, of age, and before enlisting was employed as a grocer in Mr. R.W. Foster's store in Quorn. He and his brother enlisted at   Quorn on May 16, 1916, and went to   France a few weeks, later.
