PTE Crozier enlisted in the AIF as an infantryman on the 4 March 1916 at the age of 19 yrs. After completing recruit and predeployment training he subsequently embarked for Europe in July 1916 arriving at the Western Front , France in September 1916.  On arrival he was allocated the the 59th Infantry Battalion , 15th Brigade. He spent the duration of his deployment with that unit and participated in all of the battles that the 59th was involved in , in both France and Belgium for the duration of the war. In the early part of his deployment he was trained as a Lewis Machine Gun operator and was promoted to LCPL and became the sectiion commander for his gun team. In September 1917 during the battle of Polygon Wood, he used his inititive  during an attack on a number of enemy pillbox's which resulted in the success of the objective. For his actions over 26/27 Sep 17 he was awarded the Military Medal (MM). A copy of his citation is included in his documents section of this site.  Also included is the history of his Lewis Gun which was ultimetley returned to Australia at wars end and was /is on display at the National War museum because of the events it was involved in with LCPL Crozier.  Later in 1917 he was promoted to CPL. He survived the war and returned to Australia in May 1919 where he was discharged.
