Sergeant William Clifford Flint (Service No:38209) enlisted in the RAAF at No 4 Recruiting Centre Perth on 19 March 1941 as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Trainee W/T Operator, re mustered as Store Hand, then Storekeeper and then Equipment Assistant. Promoted to Leading Aircraftman in 1942, he was stationed at 1 Reserve Personnel Pool (RPP) Townsville, before serving in Port Moresby with 15 Aircraft Repair Depot (ARD) in 1943/1944. Sergeant Flint was attached to 1 Central Recovery Depot at Discharge on 25 January 1946. Son Robert (RAN: Service No:R3660) served in the Vietnam War.
Bill was born in Sydney, NSW in 1922, second of three children of Alfred (Fred) Burrows Flint (b1887 in Bendigo, Victoria) and Marion Mabel (aka Mabel) Elsegood (b1894 in Fremantle, Western Australia). Fred worked as a Musician in Kalgoorlie before moving in 1912 to Perth, where he was a Musician in 1914 when he and Mabel married. The couple moved to Adelaide (where their eldest son was born in 1915) and then to Sydney, where Fred worked as a Musician. In the early 1930s Fred and Mabel returned to Perth, where they raised their family and Fred was a Musician.
Bill was working as a Storeman for P Falk & Co in 1941 when he enlisted in the RAAF. In 1944 in Melbourne, Bill married Marjorie Myrtle Fraser (b1922 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Marjorie was working in Melbourne as a Clerk. Following his Discharge from the RAAF in 1946, Bill and Marjorie settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and, according to Electoral Rolls, Bill was in the RAAF until the early 1950s, then he worked as a Clerk. In the late 1950s Bill and Marjorie moved to Perth, where they settled and raised their family and Bill worked as a Clerk until his death in 1981. Marjorie died in 2013.
