Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
His older brother Corporal Hector Edward Lord 12th Battalion AIF was killed in action 25 August 1918.
When Robert enlisted at the age of 17, he was was also paying court-mandated child support of five shillings a week (50c) for an infant son who had been given up for adoption.
Robert declared he was an 18-year-old machinist, but his mother would later state he was under-age and she only gave him permission to join because he was continually being worried by the 19-year-old woman who said he had fathered her child.
Robert simply went missing at Gallipoli on the 8 August 1915, no one witnessed his demise, nor does he have a known grave.
His medals etc., under direction from the Minister if the Army, were eventually split between his mother, the seperated father, and the adopted child who was being cared for by a guardian.
