Born at Uphill, Linlithgow, Scotland 1886 to William and Grace Dawson nee Maxwell; husband of Alice Dawson nee Sutherland (married 9.9.1910, South Leith, Midlothian, Scotland, died?) of 90 Albert Road, South Melbourne, VIC, John enlisted July 1916 with the 57th Battalion at Melbourne, Victoria.

Admitted to hospital 15.2.1917 (sprained left ankle, accidently injured), John returned home June 1919, being discharged on the 18th August 1919.
Inmate of the Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick, N.S.W. 1928.

Mr Dawson had been resting in an unmarked grave, forgotten, so October 2016 I placed a cross adorned with poppies on the gravesite, taken a photo of the grave and uploaded the photo onto the Northern Cemetery website as a permanent record of his service.
