11 August 1915 - Wounded in action - gunshot wound right thigh
27 October 1915 - Wrote to parents referring to his wound and that the biggest problems at the front were the machine guns and shhrapnel
8 June 1917 - Wounded in action - gunshot wound to the leg
28 November 1917 - Awarded Military Medal. Citation reads;
For great courage and devotion to duty during the attack on MONUMENT WOOD near VILLERS BRETONNEUX on the night 2nd/5th May, 1918. Under a very heavy barrage he worked continuously repairing broken telephone lines and by his untiring energy and gallant conduct succeeded in maintaining communication with the front thus enabling valuable information to be transmitted without delay. His disregard of the enemy fire was a splendid example to his comrades.'
