Died on this date - 18th December.......Private Thomas Francis Lynch was born in Adelaide, South Australia around 1899. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) as an 18 year old* Boilermaker's Assistant. (*According to death notice placed by his “foster-mother” Thomas Francis Lynch enlisted at the age of 16 & died at the age of 18).
Private Lynch arrived in France on 23rd June, 1916. He was wounded in action on 20th July, 1916 with GSW to thigh. He was sent to Hospital & recovered then rejoined his battalion in France on 15th August, 1916.
Private Lynch was wounded in action (2nd occasion) on 29th November, 1916. He was invalided to England & admitted to 5th Southern General Hospital, Portsmouth, Hampshire with gunshot wounds to right arm & thigh - severe.
Private Thomas Francis Lynch died at 2.30 am on 18th December, 1916 from his wounds. He was buried in Milton Cemetery, Portsmouth where 11 other WW1 Australians are buried.
