Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Youngest of two brothers who served in the RAAF in WWII, Aircraftman I Cyril Barry McCullagh (Service No:171355) enlisted at No 3 Recruting Centre Brisbane on 7 February 1945 - mustered as Trainee Telegraphist. ACI McCullagh was attached to 1 Engineering School at Discharge on 9 October 1945.

Cyril was born in Jundah, QLD in 1926, third of four children of Alexander John McCullagh (b1889 in Windorah, QLD) and Hilda Irene McPhellamy (b1898 in Windorah, QLD). Alexander was a Labourer on Galway Downs Station via Windorah in 1919 when he and Hilda married. The couple lived on Galway Downs Station until the late 1920s, when they settled at Cullevera via Windorah, where they raised their family and Alexander was a Grazier - and was a Justice of the Peace and a member of the Barcoo Shire Council.

According to his father (NAA), Cyril received his 'call-up papers' within a week of finishing school. Following his Discharge from the RAAF, Cyril worked in Springvale via Gatton as a Farm Labourer on his brother Ronald's farm, before settling in Longreach, where he married in the late 1950s, and worked as a Carrier. Cyril died in 2009.
