Robert Hedley Hamilton VEITCH was born on 20th January, 1896 in Kent Town, South Australia

His parents were Thomas Brown VEITCH and Margaret Bain ANDREWS

He enlisted for WW1 on 18th March, 1915 in Keswick, SA  as a Private with the 10th Infantry Battalion - he embarked from Adelaide with the 10th Battalion, 7th Reinforcements on 23rd June, 1915 on the ship HMAT Kanowna

He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 22nd October 1916 and transferred to the 32rd Battalion on 23rd September, 1916 and transferred to 43rd Battalion on 12th February, 1917, in the field

He was wounded on 31st July, 1917 and again on 2nd August, 1917 with a gun shot wound to his hand and also admitted to hospital on several occasions, the last being Fulham Medical Hospital on 14th September, 1917

Robert returned to Australia on 5th November, 1917 on the ship Themistocles and was Discharged on 6th February, 1918 as medically unfit for service

He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & the Victory Medal

On 27th January 1919 at the Methodist Manse in Kent Town, SA he married Alma Mary BLOTT - two known children, Jean & Ruth

Alma died on 19th November 1977 (Centennial Park Cemetery)

Robert died on 26th February, 1994 - last abode Myrtle Bank and was cremated in Centennial Park Cemetery in Adelaide

His brother William Robert VEITCH (SN602) also served in WW1 with the 43rd Battalion and died of wounds on 26th May, 1918 in France
