Son of James Herbert Foster and Emily Lavina Foster nee Battye of 108 Rathmines Street, Fairfield, Victoria formerly of 169 Rosneath Street, Clifton Hill, Victoria. James also enlisted on 27 August 1915 and returned to Australia on 19 October 1917 having served with the 29th Battalion
