Albert Alfred Charles Bache was born in Middlesex, England on the 20th of June, 1890. He was born near the town of Tottenham, in the north-east of London, UK, and was brought up by his mother, Mrs. E. A. Bache. He had dark hair and brown eyes. At some stage his family moved to Australia. He was educated at Norwood Primary School and is commemorated on their Honour Board. He was working as a plumber prior to enlistment.

He enlisted in the AIF at the age of 24 years and 7 months; he was given regimental number 518 and he enlisted from Adelaide, South Australia. He was 5 feet 9 inches at the time of enlistment and was enlisted as a Private.

Bache embarked with his unit on the 31st of May, 1915, on board the HMAT A2 Geelong from Adelaide, South Australia. He arrived in Egypt after a month and trained for 2 months before embarking to Gallipoli and landing on the 12th of September. The battalion’s arrival in Gallipoli, along with the 7th, helped support the weary New Zealand and Australian Divisions.

During his time in Gallipoli, he was promoted to Provost Sergeant on the 9th of October, 2015, before being demoted to Private on the 6th of May, 1916.

After Gallipoli he trained in Egypt before proceeding to France arriving 19th March 1916 and was taken on strength with the 7th Field Company Engineers. Bache received a gun shot wound to the right knee on 26th May 1916 and was treated at a Casualty Clearing Station before being transported by hospital train to eh No 5 Convalescent Hospital. He recovered by June and reported to Base Depot, rejoining his unit 3rd July 1916.

Bache took a couple of weeks leave when he married Alice Julia Gouldthorp on the 21st of July, 1917, in England.

Albert Alfred Charles Bache returned to Australia and was discharged from the AIf 11th September 1919. He also enlisted in the second World War.

Bache died on the 31st of May, 1969 of natural causes and is now buried at Centennial Park Cemetery.
