Son of John Oversby and Elizabeth Oversby of Ivyleigh, Tubrook, Liverpool, England.

Brother of John Oversby who returned to Australia on 23 August 1919 having served with the 7th Field Artillery Brigade and Joseph Oversby who was killed in action on 17 August 1916 while serving with the British Army The King's (Liverpool Regiment), 13th Battalion and is buried in the Thiepval, Departement de la Somme, Picardie, France. Pier and Face 1 D 8 B and 8 C. 

Commenced return to Australia on 16 June 1919 aboard HT Ormonde disembarking on 24 July 1919

During 1920c Thomas married Elspet Fyfe in West Perth, WA.
