Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Youngest of the three brothers (Allan, William and Ronald) who served in WWII, Corporal Ronald Murtagh Kilpatrick (Service No:12647) enlisted in the RAAF on 13 January 1941 as an Aircraftman I at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne - mustered as Messman, re mustered as Cook. Promoted to Leading Aircraftman in October 1941, he served in the Middle East with No 3 Squadron from 27 January 1943 to 18 October 1945. Corporal Kilpatrick was posted to 454 Squadron in October 1945, and was attached to 1 Personnel Depot at Discharge on 30 January 1946.

Ron was born in Kerang, Victoria in 1919, fourth of five children of Stanley John Brockman Kilpatrick (b1883 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Ethel May Kelso (b1891 in Kerang, Victoria). Stanley was working in Kerang as a Carter in 1910 when he and Ethel married. They settled in Kerang, where they raised their family and Stanley worked as a Carter, Driver and Buttermaker. In 1950, when returning from a trip to Albury, Stanley and his eldest son Francis were killed when their car crashed - both wives were critically injured.

Ron worked in Kerang at the Commercial Hotel as a Labourer, Drinks Waiter and Barman before enlisting in the RAAF in 1941. In 1945 in Melbourne he married Jessie May Ivy Oakes (b1925 in Melbourne, Victoria). Following his Discharge from the RAAF, Ron and Jessie settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Ron worked as a Barman until his death in 1957. Jessie died in 2015.
