Add my storyBiography contributed by Philomena van Rijswijk
Mum and Dad met at the Lavender Bay Catholic Youth Organistaion run by Father Stone. Dad had grown up in and around North Sydney. When Mum met him, he lived in Lord Street. It was a big family. Dad's little sister died when she was twelve from tuberculosis.
He must have been 19 when he enlisted in the Air Force. He was a radio operator. He didn't really talk to us about his experiences, but, as an old man, he was phobic about crocodiles. Dad was diagnosed with a mental illness and with PTSD from the war when I was in my early teens. He died when he was only 62. He had been living with his younger brother, who looked after him, making sure he took his medications etc.
