At the time of enlistment he was residing in Capel, WA.

Son of David Upson and Ellen Upson nee Sadler of Whitehouse Road, Eastham, Essex, England. Next of kin later given as his sister Daisy Upson of Nursery Road, Chelmsford, England

10 February 1916 - enlisted at Blackboy Hill, WA, with the 11th Battalion with the rank of Private

27 October 1916 - transferred to the 3rd Divisional Ammunition Sub Park with the rank of Driver

12 March 1918 - transferred to the 3rd Divison Motor Transport Company

Commenced return to Australia on 1 June 1919 aboard HT Somali disembarking on 8 July 1919

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal

23 August 1919 - discharged at the 5th Military District

During 1919c Edwin married Thirza Netherlea Dunkley in Bunbury, WA
