Son of Thomas Cranston O'Neill and Elizabeth O'Neill nee Duplex of Mount Barker, WA.

Brother of Clarence O'Neill who died of wounds on 5 October 1916 while a Prisoner of War in Germany and is buried in the Cologne Southern Cemetery, Germany. Plot XV11, Row B, Grave 23.

Commenced return to Australia on 17 July 1919  aboard HT Dunluce Castle disembarking on 17 August 1919
