Pioneered Mail Service
Mr. Stanley Charles Williams, who died on February 28, was born in Western Australia and was later employed as a baker at Lake Grace W.A.
He purchased the bakery business at Kingscote for Mr. S Uren in 1945. He joined the Air Force and served with that service for five years.
Mr. Williams was keenly interested in the progress of Kangaroo Island.
He pioneered the Parndana and Newlands mail service. During one extreme winter when many residents in the outback were unable to leave their properties on account of the bad road conditions, Mr. Williams always managed to get through with the mail and often spent the whole night in the open.
He was a well known and popular resident of the Island.
Mr. Williams was a member of the R.A.O.B. Lodge and was elevated to the position of R.O.H. about two years ago.
The Lodge service at the graveside was read by Mr. Keith Hearn. Rev. R Nicholls came from the mainland to conduct the burial service on Friday. Mr. Williams leaves a widow, son and daughter and two step-children.
