Albert enlisted in WW1 on 20 October 1914. He was in the 8th Australian Light Horse. He was wounded at Gallipoli in November 1915 by shrapnel in the left thumb and wrist and was discharged to return to Australia in February 1916. His Service number was 736.

Albert married Rose Harriet Myrtle Jolley in 1916 and had 5 children.
