RAAF Mosquito destroys Junkers 88 - February 26, 1944
The pilot of the Mosquito was Flying Officer Coulston Scott Samson of Fremantle, West Australia, and his navigator was Flying Officer Alexander Michael Abbey of Coffs Habrour Jetty, New South Wales. Samson and Abbey took part in an air battle over the Bay of Biscay on September 21 last, when 4 R.A.A.F. Mosquitos routed 8 Ju.88s, shooting one down in flames, probably destroying another, and damaging a third. On that occasion Abbey shot down a Ju.88 in flames after it had been forced down close to water level by Squadron Leader Gordon Panitz, DFC., of Beaudesert, Queensland.
