Joe grew up on his parents farm at 'Harmons Tank' in Pucawan NSW until 1939 when he joined the volunteer defence force before enlisting in the RAAF in April 1942. He was the oldest of 7 siblings, Pansy, Daphne, Faithful, Aileen, Dawn and Arthur.
On discharge from the defence force he returned to Harmons Tank before buying a property at Ariah Park NSW. He married Esther Jean Bean on 19 February 1948 and together they had 7 children, Gary, Graeme, Rodney, Annette, Wayne, William and Kathleen.
Together they moved to 'Iona' at Redbridge/Wombat, NSW, then into Young, NSW where they remained.
During his life Joe was a councillor on the Harden Shire Council, president of the Harden Bowling Club, worked a Comet Transport run in the area and was an active member of the Freemasons.
He was an avid gardener and bowler, and loved crossword puzzles and tennis.
Joe was survived by his wife, 7 children, 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren at the time of his death in 2002.
