Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Allan Henry Dennehy lost his life at the age of 20 when a delayed action mine left by the Germans, exploded at the Quartermaster’s store in Velu, near Bapaume, three days after the Battle of Lagnicourt. Nine men of the 4th Battalion in total were killed in the explosion of what today is known as an Improvised Explosive Device.
His slightly older brother, 1730 Pte. William John Dennehy, 3rd Battalion AIF was killed in action at Lone Pine on Gallipoli during August 1915, at 21 years of age.
Their parents, William and Kate Dennehy were distraught in their service file letters by the fact that neither of their sons had a known grave.
