Corporal Andrew Gordon Dellar (Service No:13825) initially served in the Militia (Private; Service No:445833) with 21/23 Battalion for two years before enlisting in the RAAF on 7 April 1941 at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne. Aircraftman I Dellar mustered as a Trainee Rigger, then later as Flight Rigger and Fitter. During 1941 he served at 1 RD Laverton, No 4 School of Technical Training (STT) Adelaide, No 1 Engineering School (ES) Ascot Vale and No 1 AP Geelong. In 1942, promoted to Leading Aircraftman, he was posted to No 3 Bombing and Gunnery School (BAGS) West Sale and No 1 Operational Training Unit (OTU) Bairnsdale. LAC Dellar then was attached to No 3 OTU Williamtown and No 13 Aircraft Repair Depot (ARD) before promotion to Corporal in 1945. Corporal Dellar was attached to No 35 Squadron at Discharge on 27 February 1946.

Born in Portland, Victoria in 1921, Andrew was youngest of six children of Albert (Bert) Charles Dellar (b1873 in Hamilton, Victoria) and Elizabeth Maude Roberts (b1881 in Minlaton, South Australia). Bert was a Farmer at Willenabrina via Warracknabela, Victoria when he and Elizabeth married in 1907 in Warracknabeal. They settled at Willenabrina where they raised their family and Bert was a Farmer. In 1922 Bert was one of several men in the district fined 20/- for failing to have their childdren vaccinated under the Health Act. By 1937 the family had moved to Portland where Bert was a Merchant.

Andrew worked in Portland as a Garage Storeman for Westlake Motors and served with the Militia for two years prior to enlisting in the RAAF. First Constable McCarty stated that Andrew was '... known to me for the last five years, and he is of good character, sober habits, and is an honest, respectable man' (NAA; 1941). In 1943 in Portland, Andrew married Moira May Purnell (b1923 in Yarram, Victoria), and following their Divorce in early 1947, Andrew remarried in Melbourne to Betty Florence Sheldrick (b1925 in Charters Towers, QLD) - Betty was working in Melbourne as a Porteress. Andrew and Betty lived in Melbourne where Andrew worked as a Metal Assembler before settling in Reservoir in the early 1950s - Andrew then worked as a Contractor. Betty died in 1988 and Andrew in 2003.
