Flying Officer Charles Middleton Blamey enlisted in the RAAF on 10 December 1930 as a Pilot Officer - he was a Lieutenant at Royal Military College Duntroon (1927 - 1930) when he enlsted in the RAAF. In 1932 he was posted to No 3 Squadron as Flying Officer (Flight Duties and Assistant Signals Officer). On 6 December 1932 F/O Blamey was completing the training course for an Instructor's Certificate when the de Havialnd DH60 Moth he was piloting crashed at Charlie's Paddock near RAAF Richmond NSW and he was killed.
Dolf was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1910, eldest of two sons of Thomas Albert Blamey MBE (b1884 in Wagga Wagga, NSW) and his first wife Minnie Caroline Millard (b1875 in Ballarat, Victoria). Thomas (a Captain in the Australian Military Forces) and Minnie married in 1909 in Melbourne. Thomas served in the Army in WWI and WWII and was highly decorated for his service - including an MBE. Thomas was Commissioner of Police in Victoria at the time of Dolf's death.
Dolf lived in London, England with his parents and brother in the 1920s, attended Wimbledon Prepatory School, Melbourne Grammar School and the Royal Military College Duntroon (1927 - 1930), where he graduated as Lieutenant before enlisting in the RAAF. Younger brother Tom served in the AIF in WWII (Service No:VX82).
