Enlisted 19-01-1915 Reg # 4427 31st Bn and promoted Sergeant instructor 9th Bn and selected for Officer training. Hospitalised with injury and returned to training and promoted 2nd Lieutenant 9th Bn 9-12-1915. Service in France and Belgium, hospitalised in England and promoted Lieutenant 28th Bn 22-12-1916. Promoted Temporary Captain 20-09-1918 and Captain 9-01-1919. Original attestation papers lost and reattested on return from hospital in Queensland (see statuatory declaration).
