9 Jun 1918: Honoured Distinguished Conduct Medal, In the operations against the enemy position at MONT DE MERRIS near Strazeele on the night of ⅔ June, 1918, Private O'Loughlin did particularly gallant work in putting out of action an enemy machine gun . On the first objective being reached this gun opened fire on our troops who were digging in. Regardless of the danger this man, on his own initiative, ran forward and bayoneted the enemy gunner and captured the gun. By his prompt and brave action he undoubtedly saved many lives in his company.
