Son of Geoffrey William and Louise Bentley of 'Dyrabba', Addison Road Marrickville, NSW.

Brother of Eliza Mary Louise Bentley, Ernest Richard Benltey who returned to Australia 31 August 1916 having served with the 45th Battalion and Walter Herbert Bentley who returned to Australia on 28 January 1916 having served with the 20th Battalion

Fellow soldiers who witnessed his wounding said that his arm was blown off by a bomb blast and he died near Hill 60. They also commented that he was well liked

Private L. S. Bentley (died of wounds) was 17 years of age, and son of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Bentley, of “ Deynabba," Addison-road. Marrickville, late of Tenterfield. He was educated at Tenterfield Public School, and afterwards at Port Street. Two brothers are now in camp at Liverpool.
