Herbert William Packer was born in Highbury, South Australia on the 16th of March 1882. His mother was Julia Alice White, and his father was Nathaniel Packer.
Before the war, Herbert worked as a farmer. Herbert enlisted in the AIF on 13th October 1915, before embarking later on November 22nd. He disembarked at Suez and completed training in Eygpt before proceeding to France in March 1916. He fought on the Western Front.
Herbert returned home and was discharged 27th June 1919. He married Gwendoline Clarice Fuller. In 1929, Herbert would become a father after the birth of his son, Deane Melvyn Packer. Herbert would also have a daughter, Dawn.
Herbert William Packer passed away on December 10, 1955, at age 74. He is now remembered at the Ceduna Murat Bay District WW1 Honour Roll in Ceduna, South Australia, as well as at the Tea Tree Gully Hope Valley Methodist Church District Roll of Honor in Tea Tree Gully, South Australia.
