Leading Aircraftman Kevin Cruikshank (Service Nos:N219875/NX147832/443725) initially served in the Army - from 8 January 1940 in the ACMF as a Sapper, called up for Full Time Duty (FTD) on 29 April 1942, and serving with General Details Depot and 1st Field Squadron RAE. On 16 Februuary 1943 he transferred to the AIF, and was a Corporal attached to 103 Convalescent Depot on 25 November 1943 when he Discharged 'being required for service with the RAAF' (NAA). Aircraftman II Cruikshank enlisted in the RAAF at No 2 Recruiting Centre Sydney on 26 November 1943 - mustered as Air Crew and re mustered as Equipment Assistant - described in his Attestation Papers as 'Very good type. Has done a lot of PT and lifesaving' (NAA). Promoted to Leading Aircraftman on 28 January 1945, LAC Cruikshank was attached to 7 Stores Depot Toowoomba at Discharge on 2 April 1946.

Kevin was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1919, only child of Alexander (Alex/Alick) Cruikshank (b1886 in Sydney, New South Wales) and Annie Emerton Bradley (b1891 in Sydney, New South Wales). Alex (a Printer) and Annie married in 1917 in Sydney, where they settled and raised their son until Alex's death in 1927.

Kevin started work in Sydney in 1935 as a Process Engraver with WT Baker Coy Ltd, and was a Rotogravure Operator (Printer) with Sun Newspaper in Sydney in 1940 when he enlisted in the Army. In Sydney in 1945 Kevin married Phyllis Valma West (b1922 in Sydney, New South Wales) - Phyllis was working as a Clerk in Sydney. Following his Discharge from the RAAF in 1946, Kevin and Phyllis settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Kevin worked as Rotogravure Operator/Engraver (Printer) until retirement. Kevin died in 1991 and Phyllis in 2016.
