Arthur James Polson's Story

Arthur was the eldest of six boys and enlisted one week after his 18th birthday
He served in France and was marching with his battalion when it was reported that hostilities had ceased.
He returned to Melbourne and worked with D. Richardson and Sons where he stayed for 30 years. He married Alice Sutherland and in 1928 they had a daughter, Shirley. He was a foundation member and Secretary of the Medway Golf Club and was honoured with a Life Membership. He was Secretary of the Footscray RSL for eight years where his work was recognised with special presentations from the branch and an honour certificate awarded by the Victorian RSL. In 1943 another daughter was born, Carole and he would take her to watch their football team, the Footscray Bulldogs each week. He was an active member of the Footscray Bowling Club.
Under the heading "Well Known Resident Dies Suddenly" the local newspaper The Mail, said "At work, in all social activities and in community life generally Mr Polson was popular and highly respected".
His wife Alice lived in the family home at 33 Geelong Road, Footscray until she passed away at 89 years. Their daughter Shirley Rees passed away in 2000 and Carole Liddell (Polson) is the person updating this website in memory of her Father.
