Aicraftwoman Frances Maud McHardie (Service No:102186) served in the RAAF from 19 April 1944 to 11 October 1944. She was attached to 4 School of Technical Training Adelaide at Discharge. Aircraftwoman McHardie's husband - Warren Ainsleigh McHardie (Private; Service No:QX11542) - was KiA in New Guinea.
Born in 1912 in Brisbane QLD, Frances was the second of three children of Archibald McDermaid (b1879 in Ayrshire, Scotland) and Alice Maude Crutcher (b1883 in Surrey, England). Archibald (a Labourer) and Alice (a Hospital Housemaid) married in London in 1907 and by 1909 were settled in Brisbane, QLD where Archibald worked as a Carter, Labourer and Driver.
Frances worked as a Shop Assistant before her marriage in 1942 to Warren Ainsleigh McHardie (b1912 in Mackay, QLD) - Warren enlisted in the AIF in 1941 and was KiA in New Guinea in 1942. Following her service with the RAAF, Frances settled in Brisbane, QLD where she died in 2003.
