Today it is with deep respect and great gratitude that I come to commemorate and pay a very respectful tribute in honor of the anniversary of the death of Lance Corporal 5297 Frederick William Burges.🌺

Frederick William Burges was born in 1893 in Boyton, Wiltshire, England and was the son of Frederick Ford and Edith Ford Burges and lived for a few years at 12 Churchfields, Salisbury, England. Frederick was educated at The Bishop's School, Salisbury, Wiltshire , England. At the age of 18, Frederick and his parents moved to Murrumborg, Wellington, New South Wales and before the war, William worked as a farmer.

Enlisted on March 9, 1916 at the age of 23 in the 20th Australian infantry battalion, 14th Reinforcement, he embarked with his unit on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire on August 22, 1916.Disembarked in Plymouth, England on October 13,1916, he received his training in London and he embarked with his unit at Folkestone on December 13, 1916 on board the Princess Henrietta.Disembarked in Etaples, France on December 14, 1916 towards the Somme front.

two months later, Frederick William Burges was unfortunately killed in action on March 1, 1917 in the Contalmaison sector, Somme. He was 24

Today Frederick William Burges rests in peace with his brothers in arms at the Contalmaison Chateau Cemetery, Somme.

Rest in peace Frederick, we thank you with infinite gratitude for all that you have done for us, for your country, for your comrades, by your sacrifice you have offered us a better world, you have fought bravely for peace in which we live in today and we will always be grateful to you, with deep respect, we will never forget you, the Somme and the French people will never forget.Thank you Sir🌺
