Edwin was born 14th March 1894 at Coomera in Queensland. He died 1st January 1917 in Codford Wiltshire England and is buried in St Mary's at Codford. There is also a Memorial at the Foxwells cemetery Coomera. His parents were John and Mary Elizabeth nee Harding. He is listed in the ANZACS of the Logan Village Area. He is a descendant of the Pioneer Families of the area :Orr and Kibble"

Died on this date – 1st January..... Private Edwin Beattie was born in Coomera, Queensland in 1894. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 28th March, 1916 as a 22 year old Farmer from Coomera.
Private Edwin Beattie & his older brother – George Beattie both embarked from Brisbane on the Seang Choon (A49) on 19th September, 1916 with the 47th Infantry Battalion, 5th Reinforcements & disembarked at Plymouth, England on 9th December, 1916.
Private Edwin Beattie was admitted to Devonport Hospital from HMAT Seang Choon on 9th December, 1916 – sick (slight) - mumps. He was transferred to the Military Hospital at Sutton Veny, Wiltshire on 23rd December, 1916 with the diagnosis of influenza. He developed apparent signs of pneumonia on 24th December, 1916.
Private Edwin Beattie died of pneumonia at 7.55 p.m. on 1st January, 1917 at the Military Hospital at Sutton Veny, Wiltshire. He was buried in St. Mary’s New Churchyard (also known as ANZAC Cemetery), Codford, Wiltshire, England. This cemetery contains 31 Australian WW1 War Graves & 66 New Zealand WW1 War Graves.
[Private George Beattie, 47th Battalion, was killed in action in France on 28th March, 1918. He is remembered on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial in France as he has no known grave.]

A farmer prior to enlisting on 28 March 1916, he embarked from Brisbane, Qld aboard HMAT Seang Choon (A49) on 19 September 1916. He died of sickness on 1 January 1917 in England, aged 23.
