Private Lewis Roger Maudsley (Service No:4894A) enlisted in the AIF in September 1916. He served in France with the 52nd, 31st, 30th Infantry Battalions, and was WiA in France in 1918 (GSW thigh and hand). Private Maudsley was attached to the 31st Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in December 1918.

Born in 1897 in Goomeri QLD, Lewis was the sixth of ten children of Richard Maudsley (b1861 in Cumbria, England) and Maria Jane Walker (b1865 in Ipswich, QLD). Richard emigrated in 1866, arriving in Brisbane, QLD on board the Queen of the Colonies. Richard (a Labourer) and Maria married in 1886 in Brisbane QLD and settled initially in Boonah, Ipswich QLD before relocating to Goomeri where Richard was a Grazier on his property Unduban. Richard died in 1928.

Lewis worked as a Stockman in Goomeri before his Service in the AIF, and in 1919 returned and worked as a Labourer. He was in Brisbane, QLD in 1924 when he passed the Commonwealth Public Service Exam and became a Motor Driver for the PMG. In 1926 in Brisbane, Lewis married Cecilia Mary Swanson (b1897 in Brisbane, QLD). The couple settled in Brisbane where Lewis was a Motor Driver until his death in 1961. Cecilia died in 1964.
