Died on this date – 30th March…… James Henry Maybin was born in London, England on 7th October, 1889.

On 14th February, 1916 James Henry Thomas Maybin enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) at Rockhampton, Queensland as a 26 year old, single, Labourer from Mackay, Queensland.

Private James Henry Thomas Maybin, Service number 6623, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on HMAT Boonah (A36) on 21st October, 1916 with the 9th Infantry Battalion, 21st Reinforcements & disembarked at Plymouth, England on 10th January, 1917.

Reinforcements were only given basic training in Australia. Training was completed in training units in England. Some of these were located in the Salisbury Plain & surrounding areas in the county of Wiltshire.
He was written up for a Crime at Durrington, Wiltshire on 1st February, 1917 – A.W.L. (Absent without Leave) from midnight on 1st February, 1917 till 9 am on 7th February, 1917. He was awarded 144 hours detention & forfeited a total of 11 days’ pay.

On 9th February, 1917 Private James Henry Thomas Maybin was admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire for observation. He was discharged to Perham Downs, Wiltshire on 19th February, 1917 & was marched in to 3rd Training Battalion at Larkhill, Wiltshire on 21st February, 1917.

He was admitted to King George Hospital, Stamford Street, London, England on 24th March, 1917 with Pneumonia.

Private James Henry Thomas Maybin died at 10.20 pm on 30th March, 1917 at The King George Hospital, Stamford Street, London, England from Pneumonia.(The Hospital Admissions form recorded he died at 10 pm).

He was buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery, Surrey, England where around 364 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
